On 8 September 1998 Lithuania signed the European Convention on Cinematographic Co-production, which addresses the need for harmonisation and provides a legal framework for relations between states in multilateral co-productions of cinematographic films. The Convention applies to co-productions involving at least three different states and meeting the definition of a European cinematographic work under the assessment criteria laid down by the Convention. On 8 October 1996 the Lithuanian Parliament adopted legislation on the national broadcasting body, which was amended again on 12 December 1996. The legislation regulates the procedure for the setting up, administration, operation, reorganisation and liquidation of Lithuanian National Radio and Television, and its rights, duties and responsibilities. The legislation as now adopted is the seventh version of the National Broadcasting Act, which has taken two years to prepare. On 02.07.1996 the Lithuanian Parliament adopted a new Act on the provision of information to the public, which was amended on 22.08.1996. We reported on the bill in IRIS 1995-6: 12. The Act regulates the creation and broadcasting of information to the public, the rights and duties of those who produce and broadcast such information, the owners of mass media, and journalists.
