The Act regulating telecommunications and postal services No. 19(I)/2002 aims at the harmonisation of the legislation of Cyprus with Regulation 2887/2000 of the European Parliament and EC directives adopted from 1988 to 1999. On the 11 July 2001 the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus issued two Decisions regarding the list of "events of major importance to society" as envisaged by Art. 3a of the Directive 89/552/EEC as amended by Directive 97/36/EC.
