On 7 February 2012, in Smash Communications Limited v. Broadcasting Authority et al, decided by the Civil Court, First Hall, the Court concluded that the present system established in the Broadcasting Act regulating the imposition of administrative sanctions by the Broadcasting Authority was in breach of the principle of natural justice nemo iudex in causa propria (no person may be a judge in his/her own cause; see IRIS 2012-5/33). The Malta Film Commission has launched the 2016 ‘Guidelines for Applicants’ whereby prospective applicants can benefit from grants totalling  EUR 250,000. IRIS 2015-3:1/24 [MT] Consultation on Hygiene and Food Safety in Broadcasting

The Broadcasting Authority has issued a consultation document on good practices and the wearing apparel to ensure hygiene, health and safety during cooking programmes. The Consultation Document proposes new regulations which the Authority is recommending should be approved by it in order to regulate cooking programmes. In all, twelve proposals have been launched for public discussion. The Broadcasting Authority has published a Consultation Document to amend the Broadcasting Code for the Protection of Minors. The Code, in its current format, has the defect of concentrating mainly on the protection of minors from the viewpoint of advertising, while barely dealing with other aspects of protection of minors in the broadcasting sector (see IRIS 2010-7/29).
