On 3 March 2004, the Parliament of the Republic of Albania approved some amendments on the Law on Cinematography of 1996. The amendments were introduced due to the new conditions of the market economy and the need of changes in general. On 15 May 2003, the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Means of Public Information of the Albanian Parliament expressed its deep concern about the situation regarding the social security of the Albanian journalists and other media employees. Most of them are working illegally due to media owners not paying towards their social security, as stipulated in the Law No. 7703 of 11 May 1993 "On social insurance in the Republic of Albania". On 15 May 2003 the Government of the Republic of Albania passed a draft law in order to strengthen the protection of copyrights relating to electronic media in Albania. The draft contains amendments to the Law No. 8410 of 30 September 1998 "On public and private radio and television in the Republic of Albania".
