On 5 May 1998 a Co-Production Agreement was signed between the United Kingdom and Italy. It entered into force on 2 May 2000, replacing a former Agreement concerning the co-production of films dated 30 September 1967 (see IRIS 1998-6:19).
The Agreement applies to cinematographic works of any length or medium (fiction, animation, or documentary), made by one or more Italian producers together with one or more British producers. It includes co-productions with a third (co-)producer, meaning a producer from a country with which Italy and/or the UK have signed a Co-Production Agreement or from a country which is a party to the European Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production.
Financial and creative contribution shall be at least 20% in the case of bilateral co-productions, at least 10% in the case of multilateral co-productions.
