This year, Safer Internet Day was celebrated on 7 February. In 37 countries across the world, including 24 EU countries, around 100 organisations participated in this annual event to promote internet safety for children. Safer Internet Day is organised by Insafe, the EU network for internet safety awareness. IRIS 2006-3:1/29 [KG] Public Television Established

On 10 December 2005 President Kurban Bakiev of Kyrgyzstan issued a Decree regulating general aspects concerning the establishment of a national public broadcasting company. The Decree endorsed the bylaw of the company. On 23 January 2006, the European Commission submitted to Parliament its amended proposal of the Recommendation on the protection of minors and human dignity in the European audiovisual and online information services industry (see IRIS 2004-6: 5 and IRIS 2005-9: 3). IRIS 2006-2:1/35 European Commission: Fifth Report on Application of TWF Directive

The European Commission adopted its Fifth Report on the application of the “Television without Frontiers” (TWF) Directive on 10 February 2006. The Commission is required to adopt such bi-annual reports under Article 26, TWF Directive.
