In its Decision No. 762 of 11 September 2007, the Consiliul Naţional al Audiovizualului (National Audiovisual Council - CNA), the Romanian regulator for the electronic media, adopted amendments to the Regulatory Code for Audiovisual Content (for information on the previous amendment, see IRIS 2007-4: 19). According to the changes, it is prohibited in advertising and teleshopping to show doctors or doctors’ practices where their identity is mentioned or is recognisable (section 109(3)). On 6 June 2007, the Consiliul Naţional al Audiovizualului (national broadcasting authority - CNA) published a recommendation on the reporting of tragic events involving children and teenagers. In the recommendation, the CNA states that the fate and problems of many young people currently represent "a sensitive issue, which Romanian society is not dealing with in a satisfactory way". The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers’ (CM) latest batch of country-specific Resolutions adopted in the context of the Second Monitoring Cycle of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM) concern: the Russian Federation; Romania; Ireland and Norway. The Resolutions contain a number of provisions concerning the (audiovisual) media (for similar provisions in earlier country-specific Resolutions, see IRIS 2007-3: 6 and IRIS 2006-2: 4). The incessant drought and heat wave that hit Romania in the Summer of 2007 provided the Consiliul Naţional al Audiovizualului (Romania's audiovisual watchdog - CNA) with an opportunity to assess how broadcasters reported on the difficult weather conditions, the extraordinary heat, the lengthy period of drought, the isolated violent storms and other negative effects of climate change. IRIS 2007-7:1/29 [RO] Compulsory Recording of Programmes | |
According to a new decision, adopted at the beginning of May by the Romanian Consiliul Naţional al Audiovizualului (National Audiovisual Council - CNA), all broadcasters in Romania are obliged to guarantee that the programmes they broadcast are recorded in full and in real time at the same time as they are broadcast. The recordings must be preserved for thirty days from the date of the broadcast. A compulsory period of at least 45 days applies to the preservation of programmes in respect of which broadcasters have received requests for the right to reply to, or requests that correction statements... |
