On 14 December 2010, the European Commission approved under EU State aid rules a Romanian scheme to support the development of the film industry, culture and cinematographic education in the amount of EUR 80.68 million (RON 347 million; see IRIS 2006-3/35). The Romanian support scheme provides for interest-free loans and non-reimbursable grants for the production of Romanian films or films made with Romanian participation and was considered in line with the State aid assessment criteria laid down in the Commission's Cinema Communication and lastly extended until 31 December 2012 (see IRIS 2009-3/3).... |

The Consiliul Naţional al Audiovizualului (National Council for Electronic Media - CNA) fined on 4 and 9 November 2010 several Romanian commercial TV stations and issued public warnings for others due to the violation of audiovisual laws with regard to the media coverage of sensitive cases and to the observance of advertising rules (see inter alia IRIS 2010-10/38, IRIS 2010-8/42, IRIS 2010-7/33, IRIS 2010-1/38). The Consiliul Naţional al Audiovizualului (National Council for Electronic Media - CNA) on 16 and 21 September 2010 fined two commercial Romanian TV stations and issued a public warning to a third one due to breaches of the audiovisual law when covering the preventive arrest of the Romanian tycoon Sorin Ovidiu Vîntu, who was accused of several illegal financial operations and who was arrested in September 2010. Due to the economic crisis and its effects on the Romanian markets, the Autoritatea Naţională pentru Administrare şi Reglementare în Comunicaţii (National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications - ANCOM) decided not to charge the monitoring tariff owed by the operators of electronic communications and postal services for 2010.
