The Act of 2 August 2002 on the protection of the individual in the processing of personal data came into force on 1 December 2002. This legislation transposes Directive 95/46/EEC into national legislation and repeals the Act of 31 March 1979 regulating the use of personal data in computer processing, which has been largely ignored. Following a major policy change of the Luxembourgish Government, decided on 25 January 2002, cable television stations in Luxembourg will be allowed to derive income from advertising in the near future. The Government of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg has published a policy paper outlining its intentions for the upcoming reform of the 1991 Electronic Media Act. The paper, Orientations pour une nouvelle législation sur la radio et la television, published on 14 March 2002, is the Executive's contribution to a parliamentary debate on the topic that is currently scheduled for June 2002. On 21 December 1998 Luxembourg adopted new legislation amending and reworking the amended Act of 13 December 1988 setting up a special interim tax scheme for audio-visual investment certificates, and the Act of 11 April 1990 creating a national fund for the support of audio-visual production.
