Following a major policy change of the Luxembourgish Government, decided on 25 January 2002, cable television stations in Luxembourg will be allowed to derive income from advertising in the near future. Until now, it had been the Government's policy to allow only the country's main broadcaster RTL Tele Lëtzebuerg to broadcast television advertisements. The Government of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg has published a policy paper outlining its intentions for the upcoming reform of the 1991 Electronic Media Act. The paper, Orientations pour une nouvelle législation sur la radio et la television, published on 14 March 2002, is the Executive's contribution to a parliamentary debate on the topic that is currently scheduled for June 2002. On 21 December 1998 Luxembourg adopted new legislation amending and reworking the amended Act of 13 December 1988 setting up a special interim tax scheme for audio-visual investment certificates, and the Act of 11 April 1990 creating a national fund for the support of audio-visual production. IRIS 1998-10:1/31 [LU] Film Co-Production Agreement and Film Support in Luxembourg

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Republic of Austria signed an agreement on bilateral relations in the audiovisual sector in Vienna on 23 January 2006. Under the agreement, films that are co-produced by Luxembourgian and Austrian film makers will in future be treated in the same way as domestic films as long as one of the partners is responsible for at least 20% of the overall film costs.
