The Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (the regulatory body for the audiovisual sector in France - CSA) recently fined the public-sector channels France 2 and France 3 for failing to abide by Articles 8 and 9 of the Decree of 27 March 1992 that prohibit firstly advertising on television for beverages containing more than 1.2% alcohol and secondly surreptitious advertising. The Irish Supreme Court has upheld a decision of the High Court (see IRIS 1998-6: 7) in a case concerning radio and television broadcasts in relation to constitutional referendums.
