IRIS 2004-10:1/87 [DE-HR] Films Co-Production Agreement between Germany and Croatia

On 23 February 1972, Germany and Yugoslavia signed a Co-Production Agreement, which entered into force on 24 February 1972, replacing the precedent Agreement of 19 July 1957. On 26 October 1992 Germany has agreed with Croatia, as a successor state, to keep on applying the agreement and to maintain it in force. The Agreement applies to full-length films. A feature that mentioned the business activities of a local businessman from Split was broadcast on a talk show on the main television station in Croatia (Croatian Television) in March 2002. The businessman felt defamed by this feature, and filed a suit at the Municipal Court in Split against a journalist and the editor of the show. The court accepted the claim and passed in 2004 a suspended sentence of two months with a probation period of one year. IRIS 2004-7:1/22 [HR] Media Law without Restrictions on Ownership Concentration?

The Ministry of Culture has prepared a draft law to amend the Law on Media. The amendments concern inter alia the removal of a provision restricting media ownership concentration. Besides this provision, the draft law contains mostly the same regulations as the present Law on the Media. The latter was adopted by the Parliament in October 2003.
