IRIS 1996-9:1/11 State of Signatures and Ratifications of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television: second update (until 1 October 1996)

In IRIS 1996-5: 10 we published an overview of the state of Signatures and Ratifications of, inter alia , the European Convention on Transfrontier Television, on 1 May 1996. A first update in regard to this Convention was published in IRIS 1996-8: 6. We can hereby report that the Ukraine signed the European Convention on Transfrontier Television on 14 June 1996, Slovenia on 18 July 1996, and Slovakia on 11 September 1996. Upon the signing of the Convention, Slovakia made a Reservation which is available from the Observatory in English or French, upon request.

IRIS 1996-7:1/13 [SK] New film legislation

On 14.12.1995 the People's Council of the Slovak Republic adopted legislation on the film industry. The new act covers the production and commercialization of cinema and video films, but not productions purely for television. The National Council of the Slovak Republic passed a new State Language Act on 15 November 1995. This came into force on 1 January 1996, and supersedes the Slovak Official Language Act of 1990. The preamble to Act No. 270/95 describes the Slovak language as the main element in the Slovak people's identity and an expression of the Slovak Republic's sovereignty, and the Act itself makes Slovak the state language on the territory of the Slovak Republic. IRIS 1995-2:1/6 Council of the European Union: Europe Agreement with the Slovak and Czech Republics

By decision of 19 December 1994 the Council and the Commission approved the Europe Agreements establishing an association between the European Communities and the Czech Republic, and an association between the EC and the Slovak Republic.
