Monitoring the broadcasters' violations of programme standards, the National Broadcasting Council of Poland (NBC) voiced its criticism concerning the "Big Brother" show and other shows following a similar format, arguing that they may be socially harmful. On 13 June 2001, the Polish Committee for European Integration adopted amendments to the Broadcasting Act, which were accepted by the Council of Ministers on 29 June 2001. On 19 June 2001 the National Broadcasting Council issued a decision to withdraw its licence no. 197/96-T granted to Polska Korporacja Telewizyjna (PKT) for terrestrial transmission. On 10 May 2001 the Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council of Poland addressed a letter to PKT, a Polish licensee who transmits a television programme under the name of CANAL+ Polska, in which he asked for an explanation concerning the licensee's fulfilment of technical requirements contained in item XII of the aforementioned licence. On 27 October 2000 the Prime Minister designated a president of the Office of Telecommunications Regulation (OTR) for a five year-term.
