IRIS 2006-2:1/27 [NL] Tax Advantages to Stimulate the Movie Industry

At the end of 2004, the Dutch authorities decided to continue their policy to stimulate the movie industry by offering tax advantages. This policy was endowed with a total of EUR 20 million per year. The measures were then successfully submitted for approval to the European Commission. As from 2001, the Commissariaat voor de Media (Dutch Media Authority) has been analysing the media concentrations and financial and economic developments in the press, television and radio sectors in the Netherlands. IRIS 2005-10:1/33 [NL] Public Broadcasting Service Fined because of Blocks of Advertisements

On 15 September 2005, the Commissariaat voor de Media (Dutch Media Authority), sent an official letter to the board of Directors of the Dutch Public Broadcasting Service. In that letter the Authority informed the Board of its intention to impose a fine of EUR 13.500. The Public Broadcasting Service is responsible for the broadcasting time allocated to blocks of advertisements (“STER broadcasting time”). As of 1 September 2005, amendments to the Mediawet (Dutch Media Act) introduced by a bill adopted in mid-July have entered into force. The bill modifies the organizational infrastructure of the national public broadcasting service with a view to a more efficient coordination of supervisory, administrative and professional procedures.
