The project for the systematic restoration of the audiovisual heritage of the Slovak Republic, which is aimed at preserving audiovisual works and gradually making them available to the general public, was discussed and approved by the government of the Slovak Republic at its session on 17 May 2006. This project is intended to establish the foundations within the Slovak Republic for the preservation and restoration of the audiovisual heritage in accordance with relevant international agreements. In addition, it is to define the conditions for the extension of that heritage and its preservation for future generations. At the same time, the public is to be guaranteed systematic access. It is planned to carry out the project in a series of stages between now and 2020.
