At the end of 2005, the Consiliul General al Municipiului Bucureşti (Bucharest City Council) introduced a new municipal tax for professional filming and photography in public areas (Taxa pentru utilizarea locurilor publice pentru filmare şi fotografiere profesionistă) . Depending on how central the location of the filming or photography is (Bucharest is divided into four zones, A to D), film producers have to pay a daily charge of between RON 72 (central zone) and RON 32 (outer zone) per square metre of land used (EUR 1 = RON 3.6). This Decision No. 216 of 11 October 2005 entered into force on 1 January 2006. It means the capital is now the most expensive city in Romania for film producers and photographers.
