Since November 2001, the largest Polish operator of transmission networks, TP EmiTel, is operating an experimental DVB-T transmission in Warsaw. This transmission is being carried out in a single multiplex from Radio-Television Transmission Centre located in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. The multiplex distributes four television service programmes: two public ones (TVP1 and TVP2) and two commercial ones (POLSAT and TVN). The radio permission for this activity was extended till the end of 2004.
Within this experiment technical parameters of the DVB-T test transmission, notably the scope of the reception of the DVB-T signal and the assessment of the quality of the reception for a few kinds of modulation has been examined. Within the further stages it is planned to determine technical parameters and launching a few pilot scheme stations in the different regions of Poland. Moreover it is planned to test the possibility to increase the amount of programmes within one multiplex via using so-called “statistical multiplexing”.
