HRT, Croatian Radiotelevision, Zagreb

On 19 July 2002 the Ministry of Culture and Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) signed the letter of intent which for the first time in Croatia defines the framework for joint production and promotion of at least 5 documentary and 3 feature films in Croatia on a yearly basis. The scripts and authors are to be chosen by public tender published by Ministry of Culture. HRT will finance those projects from the funds reserved by article 11 of the Zakon o Hrvatskoj radioteleviziji (Law on Croatian Radio-Television) that envisages that 10% of programmes have to be commissioned from independent production companies. Since 1990, HRT and the Ministry of Culture have financed a vast majority of Croatian feature and documentary films, but without any formal framework of cooperation between the two institutions and have been usually criticized for the lack of clear criteria and transparency.
