On 24 September 2026, the European Commission reported that signatories of the voluntary Code of Conduct on Disinformation had published their second batch of reports since the code’s recognition as a code of conduct under Article 45 of the Digital Services Act (DSA).

The Code of Conduct on Disinformation, a pioneering framework established in 2018 to address the spread of disinformation, was significantly strengthened in 2022. It was following this update that the European Commission and the European Board for Media Services integrated the 2022 version into the framework of the DSA. Very large online platforms (VLOPs) and very large online search engines (VLOSEs) report every six months on the actions taken under the code, while other non-platform signatories report annually.

Reports have been submitted to the Code of Conduct for Meta (but also individually for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp), TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google and Bing, among others. Other signatories include fact-checking organisations, civil society organisations or organisations providing tools against disinformation, which have also submitted reports.

The recently published reports detail the actions the signatories took to reduce the spread of disinformation online between 1 January and 30 June 2026. They include dedicated chapters on actions related to specific ongoing conflicts and elections, where each signatory detailed the threats they had identified and the measures they had taken to mitigate those threats.

The publication of the second batch of reports marks one year of implementation of the code. The European Commission will subsequently open dialogues with VLOP and VLOSE signatories to discuss their subscription levels and engagement.
