IRIS 2025-10:1/9 [NL] Dutch Media Authority launches new hotline for children to report undisclosed advertisements on social media

On 4 November 2025, the Commissariaat voor de Media (Dutch Media Authority) introduced a special hotline for children (De Klachtenknop), allowing them to submit an anonymous tip if they believe that an influencer has uploaded sponsored content without labelling it as such. IRIS 2025-9:1/8 [NL] Dutch court orders Meta to ensure Dutch users’ right to set a chronological feed as their default

On 2 October 2025, the District Court of Amsterdam issued a ruling in the summary proceedings (kort geding) brought against Meta by digital rights organisation Bits of Freedom. The court found that Meta had violated the Digital Services Act (DSA) by failing to preserve the user’s choice of a chronological feed and ordered it to ensure that Dutch users could retain a non-algorithmic recommender system when reopening the app or website or navigating to other sections thereof. On 28 May 2025, the Dutch Media Authority published a new policy rule on the classification of on-demand commercial media services (2025 Policy Rule). It replaces the previous policy rule adopted in 2022, which covered a narrower group of video uploaders subject to the active supervision of the Media Authority.
